How to Prepare Your PPF Kit When It Arrives – Step-by-Step Guide

How to Prepare Your PPF Kit When It Arrives – Step-by-Step Guide

Installing Paint Protection Film (PPF) can be one of the most satisfying and rewarding ways to protect your car - but proper preparation is key to a stress-free installation. Before grabbing your squeegee, make sure you’ve unpacked, checked, and prepared everything correctly. Here’s how to do it right.

1. Unpack and Inspect Your PPF Kit First

Before washing your car or preparing your workspace, start by unpacking your PPF-Kit. This step ensures that everything arrived safely and avoids frustration or wasted time later. Make sure you are unpacking in a clean environment with a lot of space.

  • Carefully unpack your order. Make sure you do not damage the Film.
  • Check if all Sheets are included and inspect them for any shipping damage.
  • If you notice any damage, contact us immediately via Live Chat or WhatsApp.
We’ll do our best to assist you right away so you can continue your installation without stress.

💡 Tip: We usually don’t weed your sheets before shipping, because pre-weeded film is harder to package securely and tends to collect dust during transport.

2. Prepare the Right Environment

For the preparation and weeding process, you don’t need a garage - just a clean, warm, and dust-free indoor space where you can comfortably unroll and handle your PPF sheets.

Good places include:

  • A large table,
  • A kitchen or dining table, or
  • Any flat, clean surface with enough room (the film can be up to 152 cm wide).

Make sure the temperature is at least 20 °C (68 °F) and the environment is dry and calm — this keeps dust away and prevents static buildup on the Film.

3. Weed (remove) the Excess Material

Now that your workspace and films are ready, it’s time to weed (remove) the excess material from each sheet.

  • Carefully pull off the unwanted film that surrounds your Pre-Cut parts.
  • Go slowly - don’t yank the material too quickly, as this might pull off Pre-Cut pieces you actually need.
  • Some PPF types are harder to weed due to their material properties.
For example, Oraguard 2815 GF+ may take longer because of its self-healing properties and the type of glue.

🎥 Check the video below for a demonstration of how to weed your sheets correctly.

4. Double-Check All Parts

After weeding, make sure that none of the pieces you need were accidentally removed - especially smaller parts like door handles, tow hook covers or camera surrounds.

Then, compare your sheets with the printed Layout Sheet included in your package.
This helps you:

  • Identify which part belongs where,
  • Plan your installation order, and
  • Get familiar with the shape of each panel.

If this is your first installation, start with flat and simple parts such as the hood or trunk lid to build confidence.

5.  Separate the Pieces for Easier Handling

Separate PPF Pieces - PPF-Kits

Once you’ve confirmed all pieces, cut them apart for easier handling:

  • Use scissors, a precision knife, or a safety cutting tool.
  • Separate large pieces like doors, bumpers, and pillars so you can work comfortably without managing oversized sheets.

You can also peel off smaller parts (like mirrors or headlights) right away, spray them, and apply them individually.
Just make sure you install the correct side (left/right) - especially if you clean and prepare your car panel by panel.

6. Final Preparation Before Installation

After you’ve unpacked, checked, weeded, and organized your film, prepare your car:

  • Wash and dry the entire surface.
  • Remove any wax, grease, or dust with a surface cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Keep your tools, spray bottle, and squeegee ready for a smooth workflow.

💡 Pro Tip: For larger panels like doors or bumpers, make sure only that specific piece remains on the sheet. This way, you can easily carry the Pre-Cut film to your car without it folding, touching other parts, or picking up dust.

Final Thoughts

Proper preparation saves time, avoids stress, and ensures your PPF installation looks professional.
By unpacking and inspecting your kit first, weeding carefully, and working in ideal conditions, you’ll set yourself up for success.
