How to Prepare Your PPF Kit When It Arrives – Step-by-Step Guide
Installing Paint Protection Film (PPF) can be one of the most satisfying and rewarding ways to protect your car - but proper preparation is key to a stress-free installation. Before grabbing your squeegee, make sure you’ve unpacked, checked, and prepared everything correctly. Here’s how to do it right.
1. Unpack and Inspect Your PPF Kit

Before washing your car or preparing your workspace, start by unpacking your PPF-Kit. This step ensures that everything arrived safely and avoids frustration or wasted time later. Make sure you are unpacking in a clean environment with a lot of space.
- Carefully unpack your order. Make sure you do not damage the Film.
- Check if all Sheets are included and inspect them for any shipping damage.
- If you notice any damage, contact us immediately via Live Chat or WhatsApp.
We’ll do our best to assist you right away so you can continue your installation without stress. - Do not throw away the packaging immediately. Smaller parts and accessories can still be inside the carton roll or protective paper.
💡 Important: Installation tools such as the squeegee and spray bottle are usually packed inside the cardboard roll to protect them during shipping. Please check the inside of the roll carefully before disposing of the packaging.
💡 Tip: All PPF-Kits arrive pre-weeded and ready to install. Every part is already prepared for you, so you can directly start with the installation process without removing excess material yourself.
2. Prepare the Right Environment
You don’t necessarily need a garage for the installation process, but the environment should be warm, wind-free, and as dust-free as possible.
- The recommended installation temperature is at least 20 °C (68 °F).
- Avoid outdoor installations in windy conditions, as dust and dirt can easily stick to the adhesive side of the Film.
- Do not install on cold vehicle panels or in very humid conditions.
- If possible, clean the floor and surrounding area beforehand to reduce airborne dust.
You can pre-trim the individual parts with scissors and bring only the needed pieces to the installation area for easier handling.
For larger kits, make sure you have enough space to:
- Hang the sheets safely on a wall,
- Lay them out on a large table, or
- Place them on a clean, dust-free floor.
This helps prevent the Film from folding, touching dirty surfaces, or collecting dust before installation.
3. Double-Check All Parts
Compare your sheets with the printed Layout Sheet included in your package.
This helps you:
- Identify which part belongs where,
- Plan your installation order, and
- Get familiar with the shape of each panel.
If this is your first installation, start with flat and simple parts such as the hood or trunk lid to build confidence.
💡 Begin with smaller or less visible parts first if you want to get familiar with the Film behavior and installation technique before moving on to larger panels.
4. Separate the Pieces for Easier Handling

Once you’ve confirmed all pieces, cut them apart for easier handling:
- Use good kitchen scissors, a precision knife (take care on your table/floor), or a safety cutting tool.
- Separate large pieces like doors, bumpers, and pillars so you can work comfortably without managing oversized sheets.
You can also peel off smaller parts (like mirrors or headlights) right away, spray them, and apply them individually.
Just make sure you install the correct side (left/right) - especially if you clean and prepare your car panel by panel.
💡 Keep the backing paper on the Film until right before installation to avoid dust contamination and accidental folding.
5. Final Preparation Before Installation
After you’ve unpacked, checked, and organized your film, prepare your car:
- Wash and dry the entire surface.
- Remove any wax, grease, or dust with a surface cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
- Make sure all panel gaps and edges are completely dry before installation.
- Keep your tools, spray bottle, and squeegee ready for a smooth workflow.
💡 Pro Tip: For larger panels like doors or bumpers, make sure only that specific piece remains on the sheet. This way, you can easily carry the Pre-Cut film to your car without it folding, touching other parts, or picking up dust.
Final Thoughts
After production, your films are securely rolled around a sturdy cardboard tube to ensure maximum protection during shipping. This packaging method effectively prevents creases or edge damage - meaning over 99.8% of all orders arrive safely and in perfect condition.
Proper preparation saves time, avoids stress, and ensures your PPF installation looks professional.
By unpacking and inspecting your kit first and working in ideal conditions, you’ll set yourself up for success.
